1-Naphthylacetic acid, also known as NAA, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C12H10O2. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 186.21 g/mol.

NAA is commonly used as a plant growth regulator and hormone. It is known to promote cell division and elongation, stimulate root formation, and enhance fruit set in plants. Due to its auxin-like activity, NAA is widely used in horticulture and agriculture for various purposes, including rooting of cuttings, fruit thinning, and preventing premature fruit drop.

In addition to its role in plant growth regulation, NAA has also found applications in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and organic compounds. It can be used as a starting material for the synthesis of various esters, amides, and other derivatives.

The physical properties of NAA include a melting point of approximately 140-142°C and a density of 1.28 g/cm³. It is sparingly soluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone. NAA is not flammable and does not have a specified flash point.

The chemical identification numbers for 1-Naphthylacetic acid include CAS number 86-87-3 and EC number 201-705-8. It is also listed in the PubChem database with the CID 7089.
